Tetovo, Macedonia, March 16 2001: KLA attack on Tetovo

How do you call a person who comes over your city with a gun or rocket launcher and fires at will? An extremist-human-rights-fighter-who-tries-to-promote-higher-education? Or a murderer?

The Albanian terrorists from KLA (UCK) are firing at anyone that moves in the parts of Tetovo mainly inhabited by Macedonians, or the city center. Fortified in the hills above Tetovo, they constantly get reinforcements from Kosovo, which is across the Shar Mountain. Their aim is to provoke ethnic Macedonians to turn against Albanian population of Macedonia, stage massacres and turn it into another Kosovo.

KLA terrorists shoot at all civilians, but reporters are at higher risk, because the truth about the situation is highly damaging to the cause of Albanian nationalism. The mob of Albanian nationalists in the city have beaten reporters who tried to cover a rally organized by Albanian nationalist parties.

The bullet-proof vests might not be enough: it has been rumored that KLA uses (internationally banned) 12 mm bullets with high piercing power.

Fear breeds anger :-(. This old lady says "just give me a gun." How would you feel like if someone shoots at your kids?

Dule's family had to flee their home - the KLA are just above their house on the outskirts of Tetovo.

Dule and his wife are ethnic Macedonians, both unemployed, living on welfare. They and their five children have nowhere else to go. One of the kids is epileptic.

Citizens of Tetovo show splinters of KLA srapnel granades that landed on their homes to reporters. Fortunatelly, the children were not playing in the yard when the Albanian "extremists" shot the missiles.

It is forbidden to use the materials from this site in ways that promote hatred, racism, or ethnic hostilities, especially in ways that implicate, hint, or openly blame all Albanians for the consequences of the murderous acts committed by the terrorist KLA/UCK. We understand that only small percent of Macedonian Albanians support KLA in its self-destructing quest for the old fascist construct, Great Albania, and even fewer do so voluntarily. Most of Albanians involved in the hostilities are pushed into them by way of forced mobilization or are misguided by continuos brainwashing. Macedonia has always been a multiethnic entity, where different cultures and religions lived side by side. This diversity is the foundation of its beauty and strength. Please help the Police and the Army of Republic of Macedonia protect its diversity, democratic values, and the lives of innocent people threatened by the KLA terrorists by continuing the Macedonian tradition of tolerance. Please do not vent your frustration, anger, and pain on your neighbors just because they speak the same language as the KLA criminals. Ordinary citizens of Macedonia belonging to all its ethnic groups (Macedonians, Albanians, Vlachs, Turks, Rroma, Serbs, Bosnians, and others) all share the same problems, same joys, just like they share the same sun and stomp the same ground. They have been living and working together for ages, and will continue to do so as soon as the supporters of KLA and all who promote violence are moved from the scene and put into jail, where they belong.
