Tetovo, Macedonia, March 21 2001: Back in the Stone Age
|
By the time I finish writing you this lines, the cease-fire and the ultimatum given by the Macedonian government to the Albanians in the hills, will have expired. It was a rather “boring” day in Tetovo today. Frustratingly boring! Very tense, and very dangerous. We did not know if bullets would come flying from some unknown destination. The Albanian snipers are all around and they can see us like an ashtray on a table. But in the 10 years of war history in this area, this was the only “cease-fire” that both sides respected. There was not even one single fire since 7 am this morning. That is good, or maybe not. The information is that the Albanians are regrouping, and reorganizing from yesterday’s heavy artillery response. I feel happy for the police and the army in Tetovo today, being out of work, and out of the bullets way. It was a “lunch and bathroom day” for the first time after a hellish week. However, now it is 12.04 PM, and the situation might drastically change. The day was “slow” but the night is what the citizens of Tetovo (at least for those who remained in their homes) is what they really fear from. Tomorrow is another day, I hope it will be as slow as it was today. But the predictions are not good at all…. Marko

It is forbidden to use the materials from this site in ways that promote hatred, racism, or ethnic hostilities, especially in ways that implicate, hint, or openly blame all Albanians for the consequences of the murderous acts committed by the terrorist KLA/UCK. We understand that only small percent of Macedonian Albanians support KLA in its self-destructing quest for the old fascist construct, Great Albania, and even fewer do so voluntarily. Most of Albanians involved in the hostilities are pushed into them by way of forced mobilization or are misguided by continuos brainwashing. Macedonia has always been a multiethnic entity, where different cultures and religions lived side by side. This diversity is the foundation of its beauty and strength. Please help the Police and the Army of Republic of Macedonia protect its diversity, democratic values, and the lives of innocent people threatened by the KLA terrorists by continuing the Macedonian tradition of tolerance. Please do not vent your frustration, anger, and pain on your neighbors just because they speak the same language as the KLA criminals. Ordinary citizens of Macedonia belonging to all its ethnic groups (Macedonians, Albanians, Vlachs, Turks, Rroma, Serbs, Bosnians, and others) all share the same problems, same joys, just like they share the same sun and stomp the same ground. They have been living and working together for ages, and will continue to do so as soon as the supporters of KLA and all who promote violence are moved from the scene and put into jail, where they belong.
