Tetovo, Macedonia, March 23 2001: The Horrors of the War

Dear friends,

How would you feel, if you were 80 years old, having 10 square yards of living space, no electricity, no drinking water and nowhere to go, and your house has been shot by the Albanian snipers every single night and day??? Ask granny Ratka, Macedonian old lady, whose house is 3 meters away from the strategic point of the Macedonian army forces, the same place where yesterday's bombing attempt took place. Imagine if a grenade exploded in her yard???!!

Ms.Ratka's cottage is on the front lines... This is the first time this old lady has been out in days. Can you imagine what she's been through?

The reason why nobody seen her till today, was because she was to scared to get out of the house. She was left with no food, a little water from winter supplies (!!!!!), no electricity, without anything! Too scared to do anything. Yesterday night, there was heavy attack and shooting form the Albanians on the hills, and she almost died from a hart attack. "The wolfs” saved her life with an immediate action, dogging bullets and risking their life to save hers. She felt fine today, but what night could bring is very uncertain.

Granny's only room. Memories...

I’ve organized a help aid, and in the next two days the journalists and all the concerned people will try to help her, putting the power back and getting her enough supplies, and even get her out of that small cottage! Any even the smallest financial aid will help. Please contact me via e-mail for details on how to contribute.

Thank you!

Marko.

It is forbidden to use the materials from this site in ways that promote hatred, racism, or ethnic hostilities, especially in ways that implicate, hint, or openly blame all Albanians for the consequences of the murderous acts committed by the terrorist KLA/UCK. We understand that only small percent of Macedonian Albanians support KLA in its self-destructing quest for the old fascist construct, Great Albania, and even fewer do so voluntarily. Most of Albanians involved in the hostilities are pushed into them by way of forced mobilization or are misguided by continuos brainwashing. Macedonia has always been a multiethnic entity, where different cultures and religions lived side by side. This diversity is the foundation of its beauty and strength. Please help the Police and the Army of Republic of Macedonia protect its diversity, democratic values, and the lives of innocent people threatened by the KLA terrorists by continuing the Macedonian tradition of tolerance. Please do not vent your frustration, anger, and pain on your neighbors just because they speak the same language as the KLA criminals. Ordinary citizens of Macedonia belonging to all its ethnic groups (Macedonians, Albanians, Vlachs, Turks, Rroma, Serbs, Bosnians, and others) all share the same problems, same joys, just like they share the same sun and stomp the same ground. They have been living and working together for ages, and will continue to do so as soon as the supporters of KLA and all who promote violence are moved from the scene and put into jail, where they belong.
